Did You Have Complications During Pregnancy?
You may be at a higher risk for heart disease over your lifetime. Heart disease is a leading cause of death for pregnant women, birthing people, and new mothers in the U.S. and California. Having certain health problems during pregnancy or after having your baby can increase your risk of heart disease later in life. Women and birthing people can lower their risk by:
- Staying active and eating healthy
- Getting regular check-ups with a doctor or nurse who knows their medical history
